Kyoshi James G. Price
Kyoshi James G. Price began is his karate journey on March 9, 1974 in a small karate school in Peoria, IL. He had always wanted to study karate, but his parents were not able to afford the expense while raising five boys. When Kyoshi Price was young man of twenty years old working at Caterpillar, he was finally able to begin his training. He began studying Shuri-Ryu karate under the instruction of Master Phillip W. Koeppel. He achieved his Shodan (black belt) in 1984.
During those early years, Kyoshi Price was a member of the United States Karate Association for which Master Koeppel was Regional Director for 21 years. In 1984, Master Koeppel formed the United States Karate-Do Kai organization, and Kyoshi Price became a member of the USKK at that time.
Since 1984, Kyoshi Price has been studying the Matsumura Seito Shorin Ryu system of karate. He received his Sichuan (7th degree black belt) from Master Phillip W. Koeppel in 2007 and was promoted to Roku Dan (6th degree black belt) in Kobudo (weapons) from the USA Alliance in 2010. He is a life member of several national and international martial arts organizations including the USKK, PKC, and USA Alliance. He has successfully competed in hundreds of tournaments from 1974 to present.
Over his years of training and instructing karate, Kyoshi Price owned and operated the Jim Price Karate School from 1984 through 2004. He is now an instructor at the Tora Hakusturu Kan Marial Arts Academy in Morton, IL - which was started by his student Sensei Matthew Schell.
Karate has played a large role in Kyoshi Price’s life. He has discovered the true meaning of friendship and has experienced a lot of love in his karate family. Karate and his karate family has seen Kyoshi Price through many trials in life and has given him the self-confidence and desire to succeed each day. In 2005 Kyoshi Price found his partner in life, and he is thankful to his loving wife for being supportive of his karate career.
